Nutritional supplements against hair loss: Foligain caplets vs. Neofollics tablets

Since the introduction of the nutritional supplement “Neofollics hair growth stimulating tablets”, the Hair Growth Specialist receives questions about the differences between Foligain hair growth caplets and the Neofollics tablets on a daily basis. In this article you will read what the differences are so that you can make an informed choice about which supplement suits you best.

A nutritional supplement can be used as a stand-alone treatment against hair loss and as an addition to a treatment with shampoo, lotion and laser therapy. With a nutritional supplement especially formulated for hair growth, you are giving your body everything it needs to allow the hair to grow healthily from the inside out.

In order for the hair to grow well, it needs sufficient amounts of vitamins and minerals. Additionally, preventing the conversion of Testosteron to Di-hydrotestosterone (DHT) is of great importance. Recent studies have shown that isoflavones (phytoestrogens) and amino acids also play an important role in hair growth.

Plant extracts

DHT inhibitors
The most well-known plant extract of which has been proven to inhibit DHT in numerous scientific studies is Saw Palmetto. The reason Saw Palmetto works is mostly due to the active ingredient Beta-sitosterol. Whereby Foligain contains a little bit more Saw Palmetto and less Beta-sitosterol, Neofollics contains a higher dosage of Beta-sitosterol. Additionally, both supplement contain Nettle leaf extract, but Foligain contains more of it.

In addition, the Neofollics Tablets contain another three extracts that inhibit the formation of DHT: Red clover extract, EGCG and isoflavones complex. These plant extracts not only inhibit the formation of DHT, but at the same time they stimulate the hair growth in other ways. The polyphenol EGCG is also a powerful antioxidant. Isoflavones restore the hormonal balance, which is important for woman during and after the menopause. Red clover contains a high concentration of isoflavones.

Other plant extracts
Foligain hair growth capsules contains three extra plant extracts: American Gingseng Root Extract, Jaborandi leaves and Ginkgo Biloba. Studies on the effectiveness of these ingredients on hair growth are mostly focused on topical used (with a lotion or shampoo).

Amino acids
Amino acids stimulate the hair growth by improving the transport of nutrients to the hair root and by increasing energy production. Both supplements contain the amino acid Taurine. Recent research has shown that there are another 2 amino acids with an effect on hair growth: L-carnitine and L-cysteine. The Neofollics Tablets contain these amino acids.

Vitamins and minerals
An important factor in poor hair condition or hair loss is a deficiency of essential vitamins and minerals. Foligain hair growth caplets and Neofollics Tablets both contain many vitamins and minerals. The Neofollics Tablets contain Selenium. Selenium has, just like Zinc, the approved health claim in that it helps to keep the hair healthy. Furthermore, there is a difference between the vitamins of the B-group. Both supplements contain B3, B5, Biotin and Folic acid. Additionally, Foligain contains vitamin B6, Neofollics contains B12 and B2.

Use of the supplement
In addition to the composition of the supplements, there are a number of differences in the use of them.

A pack of Foligain hair growth caplets consists of a jar with 120 caplets inside. The Neofollics Tablets come in a box of 100 tablets and are packaged in a blister pack (20 tablets per strip). For the recommended daily dosage of Foligain hair growth caplets, you take 2 caplets. This is 3 for Neofollics. This also causes a difference in size of the tablets. The Neofollics Tablets are smaller.

Is your hair loss limited or would you like to use a lower maintenance dose, then you'll have an advantage with Neofollics because you can easier adjust your dosage as needed, by for example taking 2 per day instead of 3. With Foligain, you immediately half your dosage.

As for the price and packaging, Foligain caplets are cheaper. With these, you have enough for two months. A box of Neofollics Tablets is enough for a minimum of 1 month. Notice that the Neofollics Tablets have a more extended formulation.
